Referendum latest
The Law Society referendum on the “dual function” runs until 25 May. The referendum, being undertaken by Electoral Reform Services for the Law Society of Scotland, asks solicitors the question:
Should the Law Society of Scotland as statutory regulator continue to be responsible for the promotion of the interests of, and the representation of, solicitors in Scotland?
The referendum was requisitioned by 64 signatories of solicitors and follows the recent referendum (as well as SGM) of the Law Society on the subject of introducing alternative business structures (ABS) for legal services in Scotland as proposed under the Legal Services (Scotland) Bill currently before the Scottish Parliament.
The Journal of the Law Society of Scotland is running an online Referendum Page where views on the dual referendum and on the dual function being posted – <<244>> - including an article by Caroline Docherty, Deputy Keeper of the Signet, and Robert Pirrie, Chief Executive of the WS Society.
