Record numbers join WS
The Keeper of the Signet, Lord Mackay of Clashfern KT, will admit a record number of new members at a ceremony on 19 May. New members include partners from Anderson Strathern, Archibald Campbell & Harley, Biggart Baillie, Dickson Minto WS, DLA Piper, Harper Macleod (Legal Awards Law Firm of the Year 2010), MacRoberts, McGrigors, Morton Fraser, Pinsent Masons and Turcan Connell, as well as Group General Counsel of RBS, Chris Campbell. Around 50 new members are expected in all categories, including 30 full WS members.
Deputy Keeper of the Signet Caroline Docherty commented: “This is one of the largest intakes of members in recent years and sets something of a record. We are delighted to see new lawyers, including younger lawyers and law students, joining and recognising the benefits, which include connecting with 500 years of Scottish legal tradition. That is something of which we can be proud.” WS office bearer and Chairman of Dundas & Wilson David Hardie added: “It is exciting to see new members joining in healthy numbers. The more members we have, the more benefits we can provide.”
One of those joining, Michael Murphy, Managing Partner of MacRoberts said: “We are delighted to support the WS Society with six new members. It is important there are independent organisations for Scotland’s lawyers and legal businesses. The WS Society has national range and is much more than the Edinburgh body it may have been thought of in the past. Its rich history is combined with a progressive attitude and first class resources and infrastructure. I am looking forward to our involvement.”
